Why isn’t my card being matched?
In most cases, CardSearchEngine will still find a match, even with imperfect images. If nothing is returned, or the expected card is missing, check the following:
The image hasn't been indexed
Have you added this card or product image to your CardSearchEngine collection? The API only matches against images you’ve uploaded. You can verify this by viewing the image directly using a debugging image URL: https://cardsearchengine.tineye.com/collection/<yourapi>/?filepath=YOUR_FILEPATH
Replace <yourapi> with your API name and YOUR_FILEPATH with the exact filepath you used when uploading the image. This will show the image stored in your collection.
If the image does not appear, it has not been added or the filepath is incorrect.
The reference image is too weak
Poor reference images can prevent a match or push it down the rankings. Common issues include too much background, low resolution, skew, glare or shadows. For foil cards, certain lighting or angles can exaggerate the foil and reduce the visibility of the card art.
Use clean, tightly cropped, consistent references images. Capture them straight on, not at an angle, and avoid heavy glare or uneven lighting.
The match isn’t the top result
The correct card may be returned, but a different variant is ranked first. This can happen with variants that have very small visual differences or where one reference image is very slightly clearer or more consistent.
Use the top result as the primary match, and present very similar cards as alternate suggestions. You can also allow users to refine or correct the result to narrow it down to the exact variant.
If the image is in your collection but not returned
If you have confirmed the image is in your CardSearchEngine collection, it should be returned in the results. If it isn’t, please contact us at support@tineye.com with the query image and filepath so we can investigate.
